So I recently bought the Apex 500w psu and was wondering if it would run the r9 280. I've checked to see if my psu can handle the r9 280 and power wise it can. The only issue is that it says the pci connectors are only 2x6 pin's and no 8 pin's. The r9 280 requires one 8 pin. However there is a 8 pin connector on my psu, is this different from a pci connector? If I plugged it into the r9 280 would it work or should I just save up for the gtx 970 which only requires 2x6 pin connectors.

What if I saved up for a 970? It requires less power, there would be about 200w left over.

The psu isn't really that bad, there's some pretty good reviews on it. And with the extra power I think it'll be able to handle it. What if I bought the card then saved up some more money and bought a new psu?

Thanks for the link, I'm not going to be holding on to this psu for very long. I'll replace it right after I buy the gpu. I might not even put the gpu in until I get a new psu! Again thanks I'll start looking for new psu's now.
