New pc not post-ing, when only cpu is connected switches off after 1-2seconds

Just built my first PC and when all put together would boot but not post. No beeps and no signal to monitor. Took everything apart, only CPU connected to motherboard, CPU fan comes on for about 1-2 seconds and then switches off. Result is the same with 0,1 or 2 sticks of RAM. All power supplies connected. Tried with a different PSU still the same. Is there something I'm missing?
Specs:
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard
AMD FX6300 CPU and stock fan
Sapphire R9 280
Hyper X 2x4Gb 1866 RAM
WD Blue 1tb HDD
Corsair CX600 PSU

For a motherboard to POST it must have processor, memory and video.
Also some motherboards are picky about which memory slots are populated for 1 or 2 sticks. Check the motherboard manual to see which memory slots you MUST use.

The motherboard would not POST when everything was connected. The RAM was in the places the motherboard manual specified

It requires a recommended minimum of 500W, and even so the rest of my system is not at all power hungry.
