I just changed the processor from an A8 to a A10 and I noticed a second place for a chip on the motherboard its on the same line as the processor, what is it used for, the tie down is their the heat sink is their no chip

G6's have quite a few different Motherboards, Some of them have Sockets for both Intel and AMD but that doesn't mean you can use them it may not have the supporting chipset and Bios. HP doesn't make those motherboards they are contracted and sometimes when a order of say 3000 of Type 1 comes though they make a few more then use the extras for one of the other types. There is also a place for a GPU socket and sometimes you might get all three.

I'm not 100% sure in this case, but it MAY be because some manufacturers use the same boards, but with different chips for AMD/Intel. (I'm a bit sketchy on this part, I'm not 100% sure) Since the APUs (I think) have the GPU built in to the processor, it doesn't need a graphics chip on the motherboard. This is where the Intel boards differ. The Intel boards use graphics chips on the board, either by AMD, Intel or NVidia.
