FM2+ board or... FM3 board?

Would it be wise to get FM2+ mobo now or shall I wait till AMD releases the FM3? I'm not sure what I should do, I heard that these boards will always be backwards compatible most the time anyway and I dont want to spend more on both a new processor and mobo when its time to upgrade.

What do you think is the best cause of action?

Solution
I pretty sure that AMD will be recycling its stock cooler design as they have been doing since AM2 socket. That won't be an issue because the new CPUs will have less TDP.

I just asked about this in a new thread but please allow me to ask you too. What is it that makes you sure Carrizo-DT will be FM2+ ? Can I have a link ? Something official ?

As for FM3, if that's what it'll be called, I personally speculate it will probably come out with K12/Zen and DDR4 in 2016. But that's my guess. I really don't think it makes sense to lunch a new socket till then. Still, I read that Carrizo might be too much for the FM2+ and since the sockets have been changing with every new architecture, I wouldn't be surprised to see an FM2++.

If you look on google you see plenty of reports on this. AMD will keep FM2+ active* until 2016. 2016 is also the date of the new socket for enthusiast CPUs...so it might very well carry over to an entirely new socket for DDR4 APUs and not stick to the FM branding. (AMD wasn't ever a fan of having many sockets at once as far as I remember).

But yea....the one thing that is for sure is that FM2+ is going to last through 2015 and Carrizo will be on the FM2+ socket. Which means that Carrizo will not receive DDR4 Ram....the question if Carrizo will receive HBM on the chip has yet to be answered. (Although the first SoC versions of Carrizo had no such thing)

*Active = will receive new CPUs until then.

I understand this is an old thread but I thought I would ask anyway: How will a new socket potentially affect heatsinks made for FM2+. Would it be possible to use a FM2+ heatsink on a FM3?
