Ide hard drive and windows xp install

Hey there I am trying to put a pc together with a gateway computer. Everything was there except the HDD So I have an IDE HDD that I put in it the HDD shows up and so does the DVD drive when I put the xp Install disk in it says file missing Windows Root system 32 ntoskrnl.exe any ideas on what to do>

Are you trying to do a clean installation of Windows?

If so you should go to BIOS and change the boot priorities so it would boot from your DVD and not your hard drive and then save the BIOS settings and restart the PC. Now it should automatically start installing Windows.
