ok simple question what actually is bottelnecking and what are its consequences and does it damage, destroy or burn ur GPU CPU or Motherboard.
can't a person play normal games with gpu like gtx 970 and cpu like dual core 2.8ghz. ??

Solution
It will definitely not harm your card as long as your power supply can handle it.

I would say minimum 600W (More would be safer) PSU for a 970. Also make sure you know that upgrading your CPU will most likely require a new motherboard, and if you get a new PSU get a good quality one. When they break they tend to take a lot of components with them.

Bottlenecking will not damage any parts, however, if the CPU is not fast enough, it will not be as effective at running the game as a CPU that can. A 970 on a dual core 2.8GHz processor will have less frames per second as a quad core 3.2GHz, because the information the graphics card is being sent is only as fast as the speed of the processor. If the graphics card can handle, say, 3.5GHz, a 2.8GHz processor would leave the graphics card running at approximately 70% load, which isn't using as much resources as it could be.

Something rarely seen but always worried about :)

A PC is the sum of its parts..... to play a game at a certain level for example, it might need precentile scores of

CPU - 70
GFX Card - 85
Memory - 50

If you have

CPU - 75
GFX Card - 80
Memory - 70

The GFX card will be your bottleneck..... most games hit the ceiling on the GFX card, some with the COU and a few with RAM (F1, STALKER)

Okay so bottlenecking is when one component is stopping another component from performing at its maximum. If you had a dual core CPU, like you said, and match it with a 780 or 970, it will bottleneck the GPU because the Dual Core will perform at its maximum while the GPU can only perform at around 20 percent. The bottleneck is usually the CPU in a computer but can be the GPU. If you have an i7 4770k with a GTX 6670 or some very low GPU, your i7 cant perform at its maximum capacity while your GPU will.

With that CPU you would get a framerate around the 40s on medium settings probably, but you could get similar framerates with much less expensive cards. I'd personally go for a cheaper card or get a better motherboard/processor combo.

u r no wrong. i am going to upgrade my cpu to Core i5 after few months till then gtx 970 and games on medium settings are ok to me.
right now i can afford only GPU. Is it a good idea or a bad idea ?
i want to confirm that if i play games with gtx 970 on dual core cpu. it will not harm my card.
