It has absolutely amazing ports and everything I need it for (opportunity for SLI, plenty of USB Ports even loads of USB 3, great sound as I love my music and a display port?!?

This seems like such a great motherboard and scan has it at a steal for £76, should I get it?

Solution
Yes, as i said.... I came back and edited the post above to add more info. The biggest problem with older tech is:

1. When ya go to sell, worth a lot less.

2. Ya sometimes get stuck in a situation where if MoBo dies..... vendor can't supply a replacement. So if windows is activated with Z87, MoBo dies within 3 years and MSi sends you aZ97 as a replacement, you **may** have issues with reactivation (Windows 7)

3. Some performance differences which you can see here

http://www.ukgamingcomputers.co.uk/z97-and-z87-difference-a-59.html

Of course if you use a PC till it dies and never sell, nuthin breaks or don't have an interest in the additional supported devices, it's all meaningless
1. The performance and functionality is ok... but it's an outdated board.

2. I'm not sure what Z87M board you are talking about but assuming it's the -G43, I don't understand the budget comment, the 1st alternative I gave you has same exact Audio, same exact number of USB ports, same exact number of USB 3 ports, same display port is current generation and is cheaper. Doesn't that help your budget ?

New Z97 version £70.53

New Z97 version £72.89

If ya still want the more expensive old versions, here's its £3+ cheaper

If it's the Gaming version, that one I'm not as familiar with but then I take all the above back. I'll get back to ya on those.

Back ..... Ok...after checking it out .... the Z87 is heavily discounted to that's attractive.

Are you planning an CF / SLI build ?
Do you need more than 2 USB 3's ? (That means more than 2 USB data storage devices (not mice, KB obviously where it doesn't help)

I can think of a situation where I'd be using more than one device that req'd USB 3 but SLI / CF is always something I like to plan for. But if SLI/CF is off the table, I;d get the Z97M-G43

However, if the answer to either of those is yes, then the Z87M Gaming is a solid choice.

They may be cheaper but I prefer the gaming one and to be honest there is no need for me to go current generation as I won't be upgrading for a long time and there isn't much difference. I am talking about the Z87m Gaming board: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z87mgaming
