Hi, I have the updated windows 8.1 hp laptop. I've updated it about 3 weeks ago and never had a problem, till now. I was watching youtube videos and my sound was working, then I received a skype call, I paused my video and then I answer the call. Everything froze up for a minute, then everything went back to normal; but my sound completely went out. I have been to a lot of site's to try and fixed this problem. I have done update checks, update driver checks, audio toubleshooter, sound card check, I've restarted my computer, shut down my computer, went into my audio setting, that I have never touched till now, and nothing's working. I have tried just about everything and I'm becoming more frustrated with every attempt that winds up failing. I know it's not the last update I did for the 8.1 because I did that 3 weeks ago and everything has worked, up until this point; and I've checked about my mute setting and nothings muted. I need help to figure this out cause everything I have looked up has not been working.

Well, it may have broken. Does any of it work, try recording a sound and playing it on another device?

If the drivers are loading and the device still reports all good from device manager, not sure what to tell you.

A lot of laptops have a built in headset/microphone plug. If this is active the speakers automatically shut off, might have shorted out and is keeping your speakers off (assuming you aren't already using headphones)

If you haven't ventured into the BIOS, make sure everything is correct in there.
