I've put together what I think should do for a PC for home studio recording, plus a bit of normal usage (word documents, perhaps netflix). This is my first build, but I did most of my research on CPU and have determined that my DAW (Mixcraft 6) can take advantage of all 8 cores, so I reasoned it might be best, but a lot of the other components I'm not 100% sure on. Any suggestions on what might be overkill and what to replace it with to reduce the price would be much appreciated! I use an external USB interface for playback and whatnot.

Thanks!

The only advantage of the extreme 4 is that it can run two graphics card and you do not need that anyway , so go for the better power management and cooler running of the gigabyte

The rest seems good , but be aware the case is pretty much open at the top and it will be noisier than most which might not be ideal for working with sound

Excellent, thank you. I will replace the board I had in my build with your recommendation. Also, thanks for the heads up with the case! I will find another and post back with an updated parts list.

I'm a little worried about this little comment that has come up with the new motherboard: 'Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs.'

Now how to get that down to $600. I'm afraid I have to let to SSD go :(
