I am a 15 year old student with no experience in building computers. i plan to use this build for school and gaming. I need it to include a keyboard, mouse, and OS. I have always heard that building a computer yourself is much better than getting one made by a company such as Cyberpowerpc, but I am not sure that i trust myself with expensive hardware. Additionally, my parents (who are paying for the computer) are not convinced that building it is the best idea. They are worried that a part will malfunction, and that i will have no way of determining what part it actually is. Could someone validate or invalidate our concerns?

Thank you in advance to those that take their time to help.

Hm, I'd probably do something like this, assuming you're not going to overclock.

Personally, I learned how to build PC's around your age and just kind of figured it out as I went along. There are a lot of forums and knowledge-base sites out there that can solve just about any problem someone at a beginner level can throw at them. It's just a matter of you being willing to take the time to research. Very specific Google searches can yield surprisingly helpful results sometimes because chances are good you're not the first to experience whatever problem you encounter.

That being said, I personally don't have time to chime in on actual rec's for your specs, but I'm sure you'll get at least 2 or 3 people to jump on here and tell you what to buy and where to buy it from.

And in short, yes, it's absolutely worth it to build yourself if you're willing to put in the effort. Just like it's worth it to learn how to change your own oil, cook your own food, or any other "service" you can pay for. :)

Primary advice: don't skimp on the motherboard. That's your baseline component and just about everything else you can use/upgrade hinges on that. Best of luck!

If you have any wiggle room, you can add a SSD, for much faster game, OS, and app loading. Something like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-internal-hard-drive-ct256mx100ssd1

That or bump up the GPU to a R9 280X, R9 290, or NVIDIA 970 GTX. (In order of performance & price)

As far as the more general questions, and parts failing, if you order from NewEgg, Amazon, or most of the other vendors out there, they offer pretty solid return policies. Along with that, most of the parts listed come with at least a 1-year manufactures warranty, some up to 3-5 years.
