Good morning/night

So i have trouble planning what to after i finish building muy pc which parts i ordered and will arrive in a week (It's a lot of time). I hope all the hardware will arrive fine. So after finishing the PC what do i have to do? First i thought intalling drivers of the hardware but i guess that i need to instal the OS firs, right? Do I have to waitfor windows to update itself before i start installing the drivers? Which is the driver order instalation? Is there any guide here in tomshardware that explains that? I'm probably skiping a lot of questions but i'll ask more questions in the near future.
I use wifi, will my pc detect it and use it for windows updates?
Thnak you

The first thing to do is power the computer on and see if it will POST

You may or may not be prompted to enter the startup menu/ BIOS/UEFI by pressing a particular key
Do that .
Find the entries for boot order . Your manual will show you how . Set the DVD drive to be the first boot device .Make sure you save the setting.
Put the windows disk in the dvd drive and then hit the reset button, or hold the power button down for 5 seconds .

If the pc doesnt restart automatically then hit the power button again

It will boot a windows installer from the DVD and following the instructions it will partition and format the hard drive .
Its best to only have one hard drive connected at this point [ the one you want to install windows on ]...
I play minecraft which is a java program. I also use half a dozen java programs for school.

Also, many browsers still need java plugins installed. I know chrome and Firefox both do. Including what I use.

Telling someone not to get Java is pointless and dumb. Sorry.

Its best to only have one hard drive connected at this point [ the one you want to install windows on ]. Just leave the power plugs out of any other drives . Best too to NOT be connected to a router .

When the windows install completes the very next thing to do is install the drivers that came with the mb . Usually its best to select drivers only and avoid the bloatware they want you to try .

Once that install has completed install the graphics driver , and then you should have a fully functioning desk top at the right resolution .
Do not be tempted to install the graphics driver before the mb drivers

After that win 7 and 8 are smart enough to work out whether you need extra java , flash etc etc .
I strongly recommend not using IE as a web browser

When you connect to a router the pc will want to activate . If everything is working as it should say yes .

Install an antivirus . AVAST is free and works well . Install a firewall .

Now your pc is ready to use

Hi outlander 01 is it really needed to set the optical drive as the boot drive and then insert the disc of windows, wouldn't the PC recognise it? I think I will have no problems on setting it as the boot drive. On the other hand I also have and will have a single evo 500 GB ssd (I have my actual PC since 2006 and only using 130 GB of 230 GB).
Thank you all. Tomorrow I'll pick the answer.

I am a believer in running Memtest for a few hours BEFORE starting an OS install. You know you have a stable system if Memtest will run and your temps are good when it is done.

Both Java and Flash are slowly becoming obsolete, but both are still used commonly. I am waiting for when HTML5 fully takes over the online program/gaming spectrum.

Thats true Turkey.

Well the only thing I do after I build a PC is obviously install something on the hdd, install the chipset drivers, install printer drivers, and whatever devices I've plugged in like webcam etc

Thats it. I use the Windows LAN and audio drivers. They work so I dont worry about installing them from the site

Then install whatever programs. Dont play big games on any of these. So 1 less thing to install.

There's not a lot on this atm. Only Office, Ccleaner, Poweriso, Defraggler, Winrar, Mirc, Start8, SumatraPDF

Thats it

Motherboard and GPU drivers - do these come on a cd with the box and such? Sounds like if you are suggesting installing before plugging into internet, then yes. Sorry for the newb question.
