fx 8320 and asrock 970 extreme3 am3+

The R 2.0 variant of that Motherboard is compatible. However, the base model is not.

Essentially, with a BIOS update all versions of the Motherboard are compatible. Unfortunately, you'd need a different CPU to boot the Motherboard and update the BIOS.

I'd suggest contacting your vendor and ensuring you're getting Revision 2.0, or at least have another Socket AM3+ CPU on hand for the BIOS update.

It's almost impossible to give an exact answer without knowing the specific video applications you're using. Photoshop uses as many cores as it can for some operations. Other Photoshop operations can only use one core at most.

BF4 and all modern games will be happy on any of the CPUs you've mentioned.

i use sony vegas pro 9 and photoshop
occasionally ill use OBS(open broadcast software) to stream which is pretty heavy on cpu if i cant use a directx hook and have to resort to a screen capture or window capture.

im already bottlenecked in bf4 with an fx6300@4ghz and a single 280x

im getting much lower framerates using directx, but when i switch to mantle i get almost double.
im looking to get my crossfired 280s' full potential
