I have an avi file that will not open in media player, handbrake, etc. Part of the file name is "-Divx-AC3-5.0.avi". I've tried several propgrams but they say it's an unsupported formt. Is the file corrupt or bunged up?

You could try VLC(it plays almost anything), but as the above user says, it may be broken. Mpeg4 files like divx/xvid/ect are supported on all modern operating systems without issues.

Some newer version of DivX may be using another codec as well. VLC should play these as well.

Nukemaster - I'll give it a try. I'm trying to get three movies from the ether that I can't find on disc and then convert to mkv so I can use them on my WD TV Live media server. It doesn't seem to matter if the file if a torrent, from usenet, or whatever, I can't get them to be recognised by Handbrake, MakeMKV, Windows Media Player, or Win Amp.
