Xeon X3220 strange voltage requirements

Hi, I've been looking on the forums for a little while now and finally decided to post something.

I'm relatively new to overclocking and have a Xeon X3220 (G0 stepping) with a VID of 1.325V.

My question is, is it normal to have massive jumps of voltage required to reach a certain speed. For example, Mine runs stable with a vcore of 1.25V up to 3GHz (333x9), but at 3.06GHz (340x9) Windows won't boot until it gets a vcore of around 1.34V. Adjusting the MCH/VTT doesn't appear to make a difference. It will then run fine at around 1.35V until 3.2GHz (356x9), where it suddenly needs 1.425V to even POST. Is this normal, or has something strange happened?

Also for some reason it runs fine at 3.2GHz with 8x400FSB, but Windows won't boot at 9x356...

For completeness, here are my specs:
CPU - Intel Xeon X3220 2.4GHz (OC to 3.2 (400x8))
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-EP45-U3DR
RAM - 8GB (4x2GB) Nanya DDR2-800MHz, 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio
GPU - VTX3D Radeon 7770
PSU - Powercool 850W (will upgrade to something by a reliable brand soon, but this seems to have been pretty reliable)

Thanks for any insights

If you mean they have a locked multiplier, then yes, they're stuck at 9x or below. But you can still up the FSB and get a stable overclock... I have mine stable at 400FSB with an 8x multiplier...
