I currently use a 240G SSD as my primary drive and had my libraries as well as my games on a 1 TB HDD. I was running out of room and had a 2 TB WD Green and cloned my old 1 TB. Will I notice any performance difference? My only concern is all my games as well as Steam are on the mechanical HDD. I'm hoping the difference is so small that it won't matter. Any opinions are experiences with the WD Green appreciated. Thanks.

Greens are a bit slower. I can't find any recent reviews of the 2TB models in particular, but this older one will give you an idea of what you're looking at: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/4tb-3tb-hdd,3183-11.html

If your 1TB is an older (particularly if 5400rpm) drive, then you may even find the green about the same or even a bit quicker. But compared to a standard 7200rpm drive, the greens are definitely slower. It's not by a huge margin though and will only affect things like program loads, file tranfers and level load times. I run an SSD and Green HDD. I wouldn't go the same way next time (I acquired the green for free) but there's no way I can justify forking out money to upgrade a fully-functioning drive for maybe 20%...

Others might see that differently, it depends where your priorities are I guess.

You are right. It still bothers me I can put a better drive in. I had this laying around for a year and figured why let it go to waste. Doubt I will notice much of a difference. Maybe I'll wait until newegg has a 2TB on sale and clone it again but won't be a rush. I'll use it with the green and see if I get over knowing it is a bit slower. I read the model I have is thier newest green drive and is 33% faster than the older one. Thanks

Now I am thinking of ditching the 2TB Green WD and getting a 3 TB drive. I read I have to format it using GPT. If I format it then clone my data from the NTFS HDD to the GPT formatted disc will my PC run into a problem? Also I cannot get a clear answer if my mobo a ASUS P8Z68-V will support GPT. Thanks.
