L3 6MB or 8MB cache?

Solution
The only cpus with 6 or 8 are quad core i7s so might be a decent upgrade. But they're all higher tdp so have a pretty good chance it will either not get enough power and crash or overheat and crash. Also, just because the cpu is the same socket does not mean it will be compatible with the mobo.

Fixed the link, the forums don't like parentheses in links. Also that's not a complete list of socket g2 cpus so take a look at this one. http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%20G2%20(rPGA988B).html

The link you provided fails.

However, technically speaking 8MB of cache is better than 6MB. But there are other factors that affect performance as well. CPU clock, core count, Hyperthreading etc. But, but, considering the CPU you're concerned about is for a laptop, I doubt you would notice the difference between who different i5 CPUs.

so which one should I get?

Ideally you want a cpu support list for the mobo but that's not usually obtainable for a laptop. You can try contacting acer or you can try to google and see what others have upgraded to but for the most part, upgrading a laptop cpu is a leap of faith. Why are you upgrading?

also, im getting a laptop cooling pad for my laptop, will that allow me to get a somewhat better cpu?

As I said the issue is the gpu. That is the same gpu and going to quad core may not even help. The higher tdp, as I said earlier, will probably either crash from not getting enough power or crash from overheating. You should just forget about this.
