Throttling from Hell

Greetings.

For clarity, I'm from South Africa. The 2 main ISP's are Telkom (also doing land-lines and ADSL line rentals) and MWeb. If I want ADLS I have to go through Telkom.

My predicament: I got 2Mbps, uncapped internet from Telkom in June this year. Being a teen I immediately started torrenting games. Since then I have received almost 4 warnings saying my usage is high and ''your account will be managed in a way to suit all users on the network''. After that I get really slow speeds and torrenting is super slow.

Now, is there a way I can stop being throttled? Is there a way to erase my history of high usage? Or do I live with slower speeds?

Thanks
PhatLloyd

Solution
Solution 1 : Try VPN. Sometimes it confuses the ISP enough so you get improved speeds. Usually it doesn't work though.

Solution 2 (Best Solution) : Don't torrent.
With respect, I don't think you can expect to break the law and the ISP's fair use policy, place a massively disproportionate load on your ISP's network AND expect them not to take any action.

If you've decided to give up the torrenting, you could try contacting your ISP, explaining your change of heart, appealing to your age, committing to abide by their fair use policy and request they remove the additional "account management". If you keep up your end of the bargain they might go for that.

Hi PhatLloyd.

South African here too. :)

There is no way to stop being throttled, Telkom,MTN Business and Internet Solutions are the only 3 bandwidth providers, they sell bandwidth to Mweb, Afrihost, etc.

Telkom,MTN Business and Internet Solutions all shape your bandwidth around 180GB + on a 2Mbps line.
Your best option is to slow usage A LOT for the next 3 to 6 weeks and then moderate downloads after that to end the month on around 200GB, that will keep speeds optimal.

I am also from South Africa

Capped accounts have become very cheap and I think you should go for a capped account, these accounts arent shaped in the same manner as uncapped accounts.

Currently I have a 600gb (200+400) capped account from Webafrica and it is a lot better than a uncapped account.
You might consider going for a smaller capped account.

Out of interest sake, how much does this account cost you?

And is the 400GB after hours only?

Including or excluding Telkom line rental?

EDIT : Just checked their site, its excluding, not worth it then... Not yet at least.
