What good is an HDMI input port on my m/b?

I am just wondering what this is for, I have an asrock fm2a88x-itx+ m/b if that is helpful. I'm sure I can use it for something, either watching tv on my monitor or something. Or maybe a passthrough to have my cable box -> computer -> tv.

I couldn't find any information on this, I know someone knows!

He meant an HDMI Input, not Output. Its a common feature on a number of Asrock motherboards.

OP, you can plug any HDMI device into the Input. When your PC is turned off the HDMI device will pass through the motherboard output. If you have a dedicated GPU, you cannot use this feature however.

This is more common on laptops, but I suppose that there's nothing preventing a desktop motherboard from having the same feature.

The HDMI input port is typically used to allow the PC/Laptop to act as an HDMI endpoint. The display and speakers are exposed to the HDMI signal source as a normal TV and sound system would be.

This mode is typically enabled through a keyboard shortcut.

How do I see the input video? I connected my cable box via hdmi to it, but don't know how to view the input.

On another note, I do have the APU chip on it.

So, nothing that I can see on my computer?

So, if I have cable box -> MB -> TV

Computer on, my TV is a monitor
Computer off, my TV displays cable box output

Is that correct? So useful if the computer is setup a media center?

That's how it should work, i personally havn't used the feature, despite having just built a Mini ITX system using an Asrock board that has the capability. Best advice i can give would be to try it out and see it if works.

That's correct. It's most useful on a laptop. For example, the laptop's display and speakers can be used with a game console.

EDIT: Your computer would probably have to be on for it to display the cable box output. Check your manual though.

I did resort to reading the manual. I can switch between the input displaying on the output, or my computer displaying on the output. I can do it via a utility or shortcut. If the computer is off or sleeping, then the input passes through.

Thanks guys!
