converting watt to amperage

Hello!

can someone confirm this...

Trying to figure out the amp that GTX 970 requires, on Nvidia's website it says "Graphic Card Power (W) is 145W to turn this in to Amp do i divide 145 with 12 (12V) = 12,08A.
does that mean 12,08A is needed to run GTX 970?

so the conversion is always based off of amps * volts = watts

you are always runing off of a 12v rail so... amps * 12v = watts

after this it is just simple algebra. amps * 12 = 145

145/12 = 12.08 amps

I would not trust anything less than 25 amps tho. you have to take into consideration just the quality off a power supply and if it will consistently produce the amperage you need. a PS that does 12 amps would be the lowest quality ever and will not have any over voltage protection and such

Ok, i have Seasonic S12II-620 it has dual 12V rail with 48A Combined, that's more than enough right?

bronze certification means nothing. it has no correlation to the ability off the power supply to produce the energy you need.

read one off these articles to get a better idea off what to look for in a power supply/

this should be a great power supply but in the end it is lacking in many areas and it is certified and sold by corsair

you have a seasonic which is the best PS manufacturer on the planet and yes it will last forever and fill all of your needs and even if it did fail it has allot of failsafes built in so that it will never harm any of your components.

no problem and thanks

you do not need a beast off a power supply for that GPU. it is considerably less power hungry than the last generation and you have absolutely no concerns with your PSU. In fact it is a little overpowered for that GPU.
