hi all
i just installed a second ram (4gb) in my laptop but having a big problem ,all of it is hardware reserved ,
before i had 1 (4gb) ram and 800mb were hardware reserved , now with 2nd ram its 4.8gb ,4 gb of new ram and 800mb of old ram ,when i check in bios i see full 8 gb ram ,even in task manager i see 8 gb ,but 3.12 gb usable rest is 4.8 hardware reserved ,
i am using windows 8.1 64-bit ,my drivers and bios are upto date and there is no option in bios to change any ram setting ,also my ram timing is same ,and voltage is also same.,.,HELP .,.,.,.,thanks in advance .
i am using lenovo ideapad y485p
A-10 5750m 8650m
dedicated gpu hd 8790m

Solution
If I'm not mistaken that's a laptop and I'm not 100% sure on this but doesn't the graphics card share memory with the system? That may explain the hardware reserved you're seeing.

ok i manage to get my both rams working ,.,.,.,i got hint by Neiesus ,so thanks
for those who have same problem ,go to your bios ,and in graphic settings ,change from switchable graphics to UMA ,and check this time u will get most of your RAM available to use ,maybe just a 1 gb reserved ,but when u do that u have disabled ur 1 gpu (probably dedicated )coz UMA is integrated ,which is bad ,now go to bios again select switchable graphics in configuration ,and reboot ,.,.,.,check ur usable ram .mine is fine now ,.both RAMs are working and only 1.2 gb is system reserved which is ,uch better than 4.8 gb
