So i am planning on getting this monitor For Gaming The Asus PB278Q 27inch" http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX41640

And i was wondering if a single GTX 980 would handle the 1440p resolution at 60 fps and at max settings i understand i wont be able to get the AA high but i just want good picture quality and smooth game play

Any help is greatly appreciated thanks!

Any modern game that has a decent GPU requirement will run fine on an SLI rig.

A single GTX980 is only 10-13% faster than a single GTX970 but its costs 60%+ MORE. That makes the GTX970 a MUCH better buy for the performance, if you need more performance, a second GTX970 is worth it.

@ Novuake

i have never done SLI before but i have heard nothing but bad things from it like micro-stutter and not all games support sli

But i may change my mind since i don't know much about SLI

Im running a single GTX 980, on a 24" 1920x1080 144hz monitor.
Im running every game i have on max settings without issue, most ive even turned on the DSR for so they play at 4k (3840x2160) and they still run flawlessly
A few games eg/ Skyrim actually default to 4k through the geforce experience program

Ok, that sounds really good, but, what about having a GTX980 supercloak instead of SLI GTX970? a supercloak is about $33.°° less than a SLI GTX970, and a reglar GTX980 is about $104.°° less than the SLI GTX970, so what´s better then?

I have recently bought a second GTX 970, and I'll be honest, it's doing my head in... (also, I'm playing at 1440)

BF4 = micro stutter. Dragon Age: I = micro stutter. Both the games I'm currently playing. For test sake, Crysis 3 and Metro LL runs like butter, but I already beat them some time ago.

I'm very disappointed as I spent a lot of money on second card, and then needed a new mobo for SLI. I'm seriously considering selling both cards (and mobo) to get a single 980.

For the record, both DA:I and BF4 play nicely on a single OC'd 970 @ 1440. BF ultra on everything, DA:I has multisampleAA off (or whichever the bottom video setting is on menu), but everything else ultra - looks and plays lovely.

So... If you have the £££, I recommend a single 980.
