How do I bypass "need 2 players to start" in Multiplayer game modes?

Hi all!

I dug up some of my older PC games recently, and decided to try out LAN (since the official servers are no longer up), and encountered the dreaded "you need 2 players to start" message.

This has been annoying me for awhile now, in both new and old games, especially since many games will at least let you walk around the map without having 'x' number of people in the lobby. It might seem silly, but all I want to do is start a match by myself to play against bots, look around the map, or take screenshots/dreamscene videos.

So is there any way I can bypass the nonsense "2 player" requirement in any game that asks it? Can it be done by editing the game's files, or using the in-game console or something?

Thanks.
