hey guys so i went trough my junk for my house move and i found this h61M-E mother board. do you think its good to just get a core i7 3370 or get a new motherboard with 4790 or wait for the 5th gene cpus? i have intel core2 q8200 quad with p5q3 motherboard.

I'd like to verify that the motherboard actually works, but I still wouldn't be sure. That board is compatible with any LGA1155 processor, although a BIOS flash may be needed for Xeon processors.

A few of points to remember though; the board only supports a maximum of 16GB RAM and is not Crossfire/SLI compatible at all. It also doesn't support SATA 3 (6Gbps) so you won't get the full benefit of an SSD, if you installed one.

Obviously getting a new board, maybe an ASUS Z97 Pro/Deluxe combined with an i7 4790k would be the best option, but it depends on what you want to spend.

I have an older PC with a Q6600 in it and it still runs games and applications fantastically with a GTX 760 in it. So you just have to ask yourself what you're trying to do.

wait for 5th gen. The performance and feeling of a new cpu will just be more than you can handle. Plenty of cost affective and efficient options will be available that surpass this gen of cpus.
