I've got a new Acer Aspire E15 for 2 months now and lately when I am on FaceBook or something, either the laptop freezes (I can't move the mouse nor ctrl+alt+delete) or I got a blue screen and the laptop shuts down. I can play games without any problems btw.

I analyzed these blue screens using WhoCrashed and it seems to be the same problem every time again:

crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys (atikmdag+0x2842E)
Bugcheck code: 0xA0000001 (0x5, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: CUSTOM_ERROR
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys
product: ATI Radeon Family
company: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
description: ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.).
Google query: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. CUSTOM_ERROR

I have tried to find a solution but it keeps happening. Hopefully somebody here can help me out!

Solution
Ok, first open control panel. You can do this by putting your cursor in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, then clicking settings, then control panel.
From here, click on the text that says view by: Category and change Category to large icons.
Once this is done, scroll down and click "Programs and Features". Wait for the list to populate and find "AMD Catalyst Control Center", right click it, and click Uninstall.
Once you've finished uninstalling it may ask you to restart. Don't do it yet. Once that's out of the way, go back to control panel and open up Device Manager. Click the small arrow next to "Display Adapters" and find your Radeon graphics adapter, then right click it, and click uninstall. Check the box that says "Delete...

Try uninstalling the driver for your graphics card/chip, then downloading the AMD Catalyst Control Center. If reinstalling the drivers doesn't work, there may be something corrupting them, or the chip could be going up the creek.

When I used the AMD autocheck it says I have the latest drivers. The AMD Catalyst Control Center was already installed on the laptop. I am not so familiar with reinstalling graphics card drivers, could you please make it more specific?

Sorry, i am not a techie at all lol

It may go black for a second, but then should come back with everything looking strange. Once that's done, restart the system and then download and run the Catalyst Control center from here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Thanks for your quick response! I've done exactly what you said, so for now let's wait. I'll pick your comment as the solution in a week if the BSOD / freeze doesn't occur.

Let's hope the BSOD doesn't happen then :)
(If it does, I'll be happy to try helping with other possible solutions)

It's been a week now and the laptop did not crash yet, so I've picked your answer as the solution. Thank you very much for your quick answer! I hope it won't crash like tomorrow haha :)

Thanks again.

Hi, everything worked fine for more than a month now. But today when I was scrolling through FaceBook, I suddenly got the BSOD again...

Here is the information:

On Wed 26-11-2014 16:50:27 GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\112614-18953-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys (atikmdag+0x2783E)
Bugcheck code: 0xA0000001 (0x5, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: CUSTOM_ERROR
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys
product: ATI Radeon Family
company: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
description: ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver

Should I reinstall the drivers again or is there something else that's broken?

Thanks in advance.
