Hi, everyone

I am building a new gaming PC and have purchased everything except the SSD. I am looking at the Samsung 840 Evo 250 GB kit, but I am not sure which one to get. There are two separate versions. One is the SSD only package and the other is the "Desktop Upgrade" package (for about $30 more).

Could someone please help me figure out what the difference is between the two kits and whether or not I will be alright purchasing the SSD only.

PS: Here is my build, in case anyone is interested. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZHcLbv

Thank you in advance for your help!

Your PSU should supply the power to your SSD.
Your motherboard should have the SATA data cables supplied to you so you should not need the desktop kit really.
Your case should have a space for putting 2.5 inch drives so the tray adapter is not really needed.
If you using as the primary drive, you don't need the USB adapter.

I am planning to only install the OS and select software on the SSD and use my 2 TB HDD for all other files. So I guess that means I won't be needing the USB adapter, correct?

No need for USB adapter. I assume you're installing windows via the DVD drive or a USB.

"Included with this 840 EVO is a desktop kit that provides all the components you need to mount your new SSD in your desktop PC, including cables, brackets, and screws. In addition, Samsung's One-stop Installation Navigator software provides a comprehensive guide for software installation, data migration, and hardware setup. The simple-to-use Samsung Data Migration software supports a powerful and unique "Custom Cloning" feature that makes migrating to your new SSD easy. And, Samsung Magician gives you all the tools to monitor, manage, and maintain your new SSD."

Personally, I would save the cash.

Thank you so much, everyone! The Chaser A31 case states it can support 2.5 inch drives in the 3.5 inch bays, but requires the use of screws. Does this mean I will not need the adapter bracket?

If so, it seems like I can get away with saving the cash on this one.

You get extra screws with your case.

You won't need the adapter bracket, correct. As Suztera said there should be screws with your case, otherwise you can get SSD screws from any computer or hardware store for a lot less then $30.
