Question about the msata port in the Asus mpcie Combo

Hi! Im about to change my MoBo to build a mATX buid with the Corsair 350D, as I will use custom watercool in a small case, I count with little space to accommodate SSDs/HDDs.

I was thinking of using the mpcie combo from the Maximus V Gene (the MoBo I´ll use) with a mSata SSD, I was thinking about the 840 evo 500GB msata, I´ve checked that the mpcie combo version 1 (the one that comes with the Maximus V Gene) have a msata 3Gb/s port, also I have investigate that there´s no a real lost using a 6Gb/s SSD with a SATA 2 port (actually with an article from here).

Well everything seems all right so far to go for this SSD, mainly I´ll be storing there my steam and origin library, the only doubt I have is why I always read something about this msata port it´s been use only to have like a cache SSD? does this port was meant only for low storage SSDs for caching? Can I really put a 500GB SSD there? there would be a real performance lost?

Hope someone can help me, thanks!

Yeah, I don't think you'll see a huge loss because of the port. SSD's shine for their low seek times for 4K and smaller files. The port is only limiting the sequential read speed, which you're not likely to max out the 3Gb/s often anyway.

Do you mean the MoBo´s revision?, or is there differents Asus Maximus V Gene models? the thing is that my MoBo just comes through the parcel so Im not manage to see that.

I have checked this manual: http://www.asus.com/ROG_ROG/MAXIMUS_V_GENE/HelpDesk_Manual/
but it comes with no specification about the mPcie combo that can answer this question, it specify though, that this is a mSATA 3Gb/s slot, but it doesn't say anything about the capacity you can install or if this is just to put a msata cache drive.

Also here is the same information:

I would guess that any size will work. I'm pretty sure it's a software based system that converts that drive to be a cache system rather than a normal drive. Not sure how easy the drivers are to configure though.

Oh ok, thanks!, what do you know about using a 6Gb/s SSD on a 3Gb/s port, I read an article here on Tom´s Hardware and it basically saids you don´t lose a noticeable performance, but I want to know other people experience, hope you can help me with that.
