i5 2500 good for gaming

I am looking at buying a second hand i5 2500 (non K) for my other pc that I am building for my cousin. He will just be gaming, no overclocking. Will the cpu handle future games? Is it a good idea to buy it second hand even if it's tested and works?

It all depends on the price and the games.
As a rule, the graphics card is more important than the cpu for gaming.
The i5-2500 is actually a decent gamer.

I would have no problem buying used from a seller you can trust.
It all depends on the price.
But, in general, I would build with newer tech.
Consider the merits of a starter build based on a $70 G3258.
