If you already have a discrete card, you will not get an upgrade with a apu.
The value of an apu is the superior graphics, not the cpu.
Once you add a discrete graphics card, you negate the value of the apu.

If you are interested in power efficiency, look at Intel haswell cpu's
The comparably priced i3-4150 is a 54w unit and will outperform the FX-6300 85w cpu in most games.
For graphics power efficiency, look at the new Maxwell graphics cards.

For a while I've been considering waiting for a GTX 960 Since it should have a lower tdp and I don't need DSR at 4k for my needs but difference seems like a nice upgrade, for the cpu I may go with an i3/i5 depending on current deals thx.
