Corrupt Windows 7 so looking to re-install it on an SSD

I have Windows 7 on my 2TB HDD at the moment. The operating system gets frequent BSOD randomly and have been through hours on end looking up why and have found my best bet is to clean install windows.
However, I have lots and lots of installed plug-ins and software which I need as it is to do with my current job so I cannot loose them and the time it takes to re-install them all will be tremendous.

So therefore I was thinking, keep my hard drive as it is, buy an SSD and install Win 7 onto it and boot from the SSD.

Will this work or will my HDD need reformatting completely then install Win 7?

Thanks guys

If you try to reinstall Windows on the SSD, you'll have a different problem with programs. Programs aren't just installed into the "C:\Program Files" folder, there are registries created and other files created that the programs need in order to run.

If you install Windows 7 to an SSD and try to run the programs from the old HDD, those programs won't know where to turn for those extra files and they will not work.

You will have to reinstall the programs no matter what.

And maybe if you used something like Blue Screen View (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html) and post what's in the dump files for the BSOD we can perhaps help get to the root of the problem and avoid having to do a complete reinstall in the first place.

It'll be fine. Just have only the SSD inside while installing Windows and be sure not to set the SSD's drive letter the same as the HDD. Once all is done you can reconnect your HDD and boot again.

Some applications might not start or work properly as they require associations to the boot drive (which is your SSD with a new drive letter)

But hopefully most of them still work because the filepaths are still valid.

I have tried getting the dump files but no matter what they just don't appear once a BSOD has occurred. I set the setting so that it collects the dump files but still nothing :/ Any way I can sort that?
