I have an old hard drive that I have no use for, and want to have some fun with it at school. I have a PSU, but I'm not 100% sure how to power it without a motherboard. I know that there is a way to make some sort of switch, but I don't know the details. If you could describe it in depth or link a video to it (I'm more of a visual learner), that would be great. Thank you to those of you that help. Also, if it makes any difference, it is a SATA HDD 7200 RPM Hitachi.

You can briefly short the power supply pin 16 (the only green wire on the ATX cable) to ground (one of the black wired pins, like 17 that is next to the green). Take a look at the ATX pinout about 1/3 of the way down (the real colorful picture labeled 24-pin ATX12V 2.x power supply connector) HERE. You can use an ATX power switch or just briefly insert a bent paper clip in the correct pins -- but do not do that with any pair other than the green and a black (i.e. never a red or yellow those are +5 and +12V).
