Approximate Purchase Date: Within a month

Budget Range: $1400 Before Rebates; After Shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, surfing the internet

Are you buying a monitor: No

Do you need to buy OS: Yes (Prefer windows 7)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I'm new to this - anything reliable

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Parts Preferences: I would prefer nvidia over radon

Overclocking: Probably not

SLI or Crossfire: Probably not

Your Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050

Additional Comments: Would like a solid state drive in addition to a hard disk drive in order to load the OS and a couple of select programs quickly upon startup.

Why Are You Upgrading: Years ago I bought myself a decent laptop for school purposes and so I could start playing modern PC games. However, said laptop is now outdated, and cannot/ will not be able to run some of the games coming out that I wish to play, namely Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age Inquisition, and The Witcher 3. Furthermore, I'm experiencing frequent display driver crashes, often without recovery, while playing games I've been playing for years, such as League of Legends. Recently, BSODs have been occurring as well. Thus I am now planning to build a desktop computer with a focus on gaming. I should mention that this will be my first attempt at building a computer, and I'm inexperienced when it comes to computer hardware.

This would be my pick for a non overclocking gaming rig, with some longevity to it, within your budget.

Well, your budget was enough to include overclocking while sacrificing nothing else. I recommend Windows 8.1 for gaming, Windows 7 has basically lost consumer support (Though Microsoft says they may be extending DX support to Windows 7)

You can OC if you want, you can SLI if you want. You might as well include the option to do so with a budget like this.
