I know this is probably a stupid question, but is it possible to allocate RAM to your discreet graphics card? I was planning on getting Shadow of Mordor and running the Ultra HD pack, however it needs 6Gb of VRAM and I have a respectable 3Gb. However, I have 16GB of system RAM, 4 gigs of which I could easily allocate to graphics. Is it possible to do?

with 3gig card you will have no problem on running hd textures, over at guru3d we had a long discussion about it and the 6gb requirement turned out to be complete bs, everyone with their 3 gig cards where able to run the hd textures without any issues, given those where mostly 780's, 780ti's but there where people with 280x's and reported it running smooth without any issues, im running it with high on my 2gig card without any issues, the games recommended vram specs are complete bs, youll be fine as you are

Your video card is likely already doing this. I know mine do. Check your system memory usage Resource Monitor or using DXdiag (Direct X Diagnostics). My GTX580 would consume 2.5GB of system memory to get to a total of 4GB. My shiny GTX980 appears to eat up to 8GB of system memory as it sees fit.

Windows will manage your memory to optimize performance. But really nothing you can do to force it to use more system memory.
