Hello,
I currently have these specs:

MSI gtx 970 gaming edition
i3 2120
ASUS p8z77-v
2x4gb RAM
Stock cooler
Corsair 550 watt PSU

I know having a low end i3 with a gtx 970 is stupid, so I would like to upgrade. I have heard that 4 cores will increase fps in games like BF4 and Far cry 3. I could also overclock it to 4.0ghz.
Do you think its a good idea to get the i5 3570k and if so, which after market cooler should I buy that is under $70.

Thanks.

To find out more about water cooling, look at this thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/277130-29-read-first-watercooling-sticky

As someone else put it, basically, the liquid is pumped to the CPU block where it absorbs the heat from the processor and then travels to the radiator to be transferred to the air and blown out.

In your case you could mount it where the upper right exhaust fan is or even higher up where the top fans mount like this: http://media.webcollage.net/rwvfp/wc/cp/12959317/module/corsair/_cp/products/1332453852780/tab-3cb190cb-a8a5-49a9-89c9-590d3621816b/resource-9f35e6f5-2772-4ab2-a0e4-1e3524b4cbf1.png.web.v1.jpg

How tall is the RAM and what is your current RAM? It will fit in the MOBO although if you get tall RAM be sure to put it in to slots farthest away from the 212 so they do not interfere with one another. What is your case? We have to make sure that has proper clearance as well.

Okay Im now looking at the Corsair 55 water cooler. I am confused what all the parts do. Especially the radiator, what is that for and where would I mount it in my 550d case?

That CPU requires a motheboard upgrade for the OP.
He can go from a Sandy Bridge to an Ivy Bridge (both socket 1155) with nothing more then maybee a bios upgrade.
To go to a Haswell that is a socket 1150 he would need a new board.

FYI to the OP: For a 3570K you only need bios version 0801 or newer (bigger number).
