what GPU is good with what CPU

He's saying the opposite of you. It's not a myth because it happens and he shows it happening. At first, unigine is a gpu bench so cpu plays little so shows little affect. You'll run into games like that but he also goes into the other side with bf3 mp where the cpu play a bigger role. He's only getting 50% of the gpu with an "i3" although his fps isn't bad and it's still a decent cpu. But how much do you think he'll get on a e5500? While the gpus you suggested are lower than a 680 that he was using, the cpu is much lower and will not do well on high end games. However, it's not a bad idea to get a better gpu than your cpu can handle if you are going to upgrade the rest/reuse the gpu.

yea ok myth may be the wrong word but its not as dramatic as it is always made out to be
-but the other point was that all the settings were still maxed, so if you reduce the settings accordingly it´s not so bad
