Horrible screen flicker using Intel grafics

Just installed a Z97 - hooked it to a 30" monitor using the onboard plug and initially worked fine. Then it started to flicker uncontrollably. Is the MB bad or what?

Thought I would add a bit more info. The MB is Asus, monitor Samsung 30" (which I've never had problems with) and of course the port used is DVI. System 8,1. Asus says the onboard graphics will support 1920x1200 so I thought I would try it in place of an older Nvidia GeForce.
