Undervolting the 4790k

Hello guys, I have a quick question for you. I am currently running a 4790k i7 processor and I've noticed that I hit 79C with a custom air cooler, while playing Crysis 3. Everything is set on max and I've noticed that my vcore volts jump up to 1.4 or above, and that is high for stock settings, that is why I want to decrease the voltage, since the mobo's bios is not fully optimized for the K series (I rather not flash the BIOS, just for new voltage settings, set by the manufacturer).

So does anyone here have this CPU and has decreased the Vcore voltage? Would you share your stable voltage, at which you could still keep the 4.4GHz boost. Currently under no load (but on high performance setting in the Windows control panel) it's: 1.308V @ 4.4GHz, but I've read you could push it to 1.155V @ 4.4GHz. I have no idea if this is good for this particular CPU, or if possible.

Thank you

From what I've read, the max voltage you'll typically see on stock settings is around 1.21 vcore and it is usually slightly lower depending on how good your silicone is. 1.4 for stock settings is way too much.

I'm willing to bet that the overvolting of your CPU is due to out of date bios for your motherboard so I strongly recommend updating them.

Ok so, I've set the Vcore to 1.15 and Vrin to 1.7, since the difference should be 0.6v. I have not used any burn test tools, but I ran Crysis 3 for 4 hours now, and I have not come across a BSOD or a freeze. So I think that is a good voltage. I may try and lower it, but now my max temp is 71C, so 8C less, which is a nice outcome and the test is done in the same ambient temp as before I did the undervolt.

And another thing: Under load my 4-th core runs 5-6C cooler. Is that normal? 71 70 71 66
