i was wondering if anyone that has updated their Samsung 840 with the recent firmware updated that fixed slow read speeds. i have heard that it could corrupt some files that are on the drive, and the only thing on mine is my OS. do i have to back it up? also i have not experienced any slow speeds is it worth updating it?

I ran the utility without problems....I have read a few that have. It is always better to back up or be prepared to reinstall.....In your case, since the only thing on the SSD is the OS, you can reinstall the OS (programs will have to be reinstalled as well). Given the amount of Samsung 840s out there....it seriously doubt it is a high probability of failure....

i got a message saying that if i am using a third party storage driver that it might now work properly. what does that mean?

it wouldn't let me proceed, it keeps warning me to backup my data which did, just in case. i starting to think its not meant to be. I've had too much bad luck with computers. lol
