Hey guys,

So I'll start out this post by saying I am 100% new to but willing to learn how to overclock. I have been wanting to overclock my CPU for a little while now but I have no experience nor sufficient knowledge as to what needs to be changed in the BIOS (voltages, other settings, etc.)

The guides I have looked at or forum posts that I have seen so far are for either intel builds or the same CPU as mine, but different mobo.

Thing is, their UI is different than mine (duh) but also they have other settings they can change that I either don't have or simply don't know its equivalent based from my mobo or where I can find them to change.

So, the details...

CPU: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition running at 4.0Ghz w/ 4.2 Turbo

Mobo: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 revision 3

Cooler: Xigmatek Dark Knight II

My goal (should be no problem from what ive seen other people clock to) is 4.5Ghz but I need help as to what I have to change in/out of BIOS.

I am a total scrub when it comes to this as I've never OCed before so I need some guidance haha.

Thanks for the help!

I guess human curiosity counts for nothing these days!

The principles of the guides you read are the same and the labelling/names in your bios should be similar. It all comes down to;

increased the clock multiplier by 1 step
stress test with prime95 - if any failures, increase Vcore 1 step, if no failures, increase multiplier again.
All the time, checking core temperatures when stress testing.
Don't exceed the limits in the guides

BTW, it is possible to destroy your CPU if you mess it up!!

Haha, for that reason alone (destroying CPU being a possibility) is why I am being as safe as I can and asking questions first.
Don't get me wrong I'd love to just jump in and experiment but I'm not about to destroy my CPU for the sake of curiosity alone.

Thanks for this as well.

Cheers!
