Hello,

My PC is not detecting the 5ghz band of my network. I need this because 2.4ghz is too slow for me and I need something faster.

On Device Manager the network card supports 802.11n. But it still cannot detect the 5ghz network.

Please help me!

Are other devices in your home connecting to the 5ghz band? Go into the Admin of your router and make sure your 5ghz is properly set to broadcast. Reboot your router. Remove your network card and uninstall all associated software, then reinstall etc. Let us know what happens.

Maybe similar to this one. Its a TP-link WDN3200 USB wireless adapter.

Windows installed its drivers when I plugged it in. It couldn't see the 5ghz connection here either.

I had to download the drivers from the TP-link site to fix it. Once I updated the drivers in device manager. It saw both the 2.4 and 5 ghz connections

The 802.11n specification does not mean a device will support both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. There are many devices with 802.11n that are 2.4GHz only.

You'll need to find the make and model of the adapter that you have to find if it will support 5GHz.

If it doesn't, you can possibly change the wireless adapter, or buy a separate USB wireless adapter for your PC that is dual-band capable.

Checked it again and it supports b,g and n.

Does it need to also support a to make it compatible for 5ghz?

Find the make and model of your wireless adapter in device manager. You should be able to do a search for specs, or post the info here if you need help finding if it is dual-band capable.

Well, try this.
Press Windows Key and R Key at the same time and you'll get Run Window. Type cmd in and you'll see the console.
And then type in netsh wlan show driver
Scroll down and find Radio types supported.
If they show 802.11a 802.11b 802.11g, You're computer supports 5 GHz WiFi.
But when it doesn't show that, you'll need to download the Newer driver in order to be 5 GHz compatible.

I was really struggling to get my Sony Vaio Pro 13 to recognize my 5.2Ghz wireless . It recognized the 2.4Ghz, but not the 5.2Ghz. This is what worked for me:

1) Go to Device Manager, right-click on your wireless adapter, and choose "Properties"

2) Under the "Advanced" tab, scroll down to "Wireless Mode" and make sure that you select "802.11a/b/g"
