What causes a pc to over heat and shut off.

Was wondering what would cause a pc to overheat and shut off while i play games(l.o.l) and how do you fix it.

The CPU usually. Its either not on properly, or theres no paste on it

It'll shut the system down so the CPU wont fry

Your heatsink may be chocked with dust, or it may not be seated properly. If you hold the heatsink in your hand and try to tilt it or move it from side to side it shouldn't move.

Heatsink not correclty mounted, bad thermal paste aplication, dust (lots of dust), cpu fan not spinning, a bad cpu. A hot GPU will also shut your system, download msi Afterburner to see what are your temps, Both of them should be below/around 70°C, anything higher than this and you alt+f4 out of the app inmedialty.
