i have a 7870 paired with an i5 3450 and 8 Gigabytes of ddr3 1600mhz RAM. my current operating system is windows 7 64 bit. will upgrading to windows 8.1 improve my PC gaming performance for BF4 and BF Hardline? also are those still good Gaming Specs for late 2014? also will games like bf3 and others that are for windows 7 still run good?

An upgrade to a newer windows version is a good idea in some situations, such as when it's necessary for stability or because specific hardware isn't supported well in an older version, but it probably isn't going to do much if anything at all to increase gaming performance on a system that's already running well with the latest drivers.

I have shifted from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 since Jul-Aug, (never get BSOD so far).. I can see the difference between the two..
Windows 8.1 uses less system memory. Boot faster in windows 8.1 8-10 sec vs 30 secs of Windows 7 (both SSD)... Boost in fps when it comes to gaming..

here are few threads for references:

Those threads you referenced as proof are nothing. They are posts by people with little to no credibility. Single post wonders. However, despite that, in ideal circumstances it IS somewhat accurate. Not to the degree expressed by a few driveby members, but enough to warrant mention.

Anyhow, there is some performance gain in windows 8.1, if you don't have driver issues with older hardware. Gains generally run from between 1-6%, which isn't that much, but is consistent, depending on the GPU and game title. And here is an actual review, for reference:

Please note this also emphasis personal experiences.. Giving reviews and threads are few references like what we are doing here could be more credible, that's fine... Those link with best answers chosen by OP probably because they must have tried it or found to have points or got addition information, doesn't need to be expert to tell the differences between OS and questions other people's credibility... We don't use multiple-tester and injecting voltages in here.. You may correct me if I was wrong about those OS, that's fine.. If you have better references, that's fine. Objections for no reason is just ridiculous..
