So my m17x started doing 8 beeps on start up. I delved into the back after doing some research and finding out it may be either, the gfx card or the lcd. I reseated everything I could without going too far and I seemed to fix it until I brought up a game. Shut off completely and started beeping again. I then narrowed it down to the graphics card. I then proceeded to remove the heatsink to get to the graphics card without realising I didn't need to, to reseat it. I pulled the heat sink off the gfx card and felt the old thermal paste come off. My question is, since I've put it back together... Do I have to clean it and apply new thermal paste before I turn it on?? I'm stressing because this Comp was expensive and I don't want to destroy it. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Buy some arctic silver. Watch a youtube video on how to best apply thermal paste. Reseat and be done. If your cpu is working fine then no need. If it is crashing perhaps the paste is compromised and cleaning with isopropyl alcohol with replenishing with a quality tim can possibly do the trick!

UPDATE:
Here's a good vid on how to best apply using the pea method (you can jump to 2:11 to see method but watch the whole vid it's only 3min long total):

Note: Make sure you use microfiber cloth so as to avoid leaving loose fibers that a paper towel may leave
