Earlier this year I purchased a new Dell laptop. Whenever I turn on the laptop, it causes our Comcast wireless Gateway from working. We never had this issue with our old laptop. We never have this issue with any of our phones or my son's Kindle, it only occurs when you us the new laptop. Once the gateway trips, I have to manually reset it using a toothpick and the button on the back.
Just a side note, there have been times where we have been able to use the laptop for a period of time without it tripping to gateway. Those times, I had the laptop downstairs which is closer to the gateway. It almost always trips when the laptop is in my bedroom which is upstairs on the other side of the house (I don't live in a mansion, so it is not that far). However like I said before, we never had this problem with our old laptop which stayed in our bedroom at all times.

Any ideas?

Going too far from the router just causes the connection to drop, and should not require the gateway to be reset.

Did you see if there is an updated driver for the WiFi adapter for the Dell notebook? Also, see if there is a firmware upgrade for the gateway.

Thanks for the reply. I did contact Dell a couple months ago about the issue and they told me my drivers were up to date, but I never checked on the gateway. I will see if there are any updates available.
