Hello, I was thinking of upgrading my CPU in my PC along with a new motherboard and a new CPU cooler if I ever wanted to overclock. I just wanted to know if a i7 2600k was a good processor to buy for both video rendering stuff and gaming. And I also wanted to know what motherboard and CPU cooler would be good for this processor.

If you don't like liquid cooling and you have a roomy case you can also get a Noctua NH-D15.

It's still a good CPU, but it's old and has been replaced three times over, by Ivy Bridge, Haswell and Haswell-R.

Since you'll be buying a new mobo as well there's no point in getting an outdated CPU. In your situation I'd get a i7-4790K, excellent for both rendering and gaming. Slap a CM Hyper 212 Evo, Noctua NH-D14/15, or Corsair H100i (or something similar) on it depending on your budget and you'll be overclocking in no time.

For the mobo the Asus Z97-A is always a good choice, so are MSI and Gigabyte's Z97 Gaming series.

If you tell me your budget I can put something together for you.
