RAID 1 alternative?

Hi, I am in the process of building a work station machine. I ordered two, 1tb drives intending to use them in raid 1 as the data that will be stored on them is highly valuable. I then found out that my motherboard doesn't support raid....

So, are there any alternatives to raid which are not difficult to maintain? I know raid isn't fail safe, so don't go lecturing on that, but are there any alternatives/better ways to keep a set of files safe using two internal hard drives?

Thanks.

I use the original bvckup and it works quite well as sync software. Bvckup 2 looks promising. Just be aware that if you accidently delete a file it will be removed from the synced drive/folder and that a virus will be synced to your other drive. This is the same situation that raid presents which is why you should also always have a backup.

I'd buy a PCI-E controller card with 2 ports and put them in a RAID 1 and not use the onboard if this is for a workstation.

Something like this or even cheaper:

The other ways are simply running backup jobs each night or using an external drive.

And yes, RAID is fail-safe with enough redundancy built-in. and is used across all enterprises. It just depends on how much you want to dive into it.

The motherboard doesn't have an onboard raid controller... That's the issue.
Plus I don't want to spend any more money on this, can you suggest a free software which could mimick raid 1 functionality (keeping the files safe from drive failure)

I have the OS on the drives, I don't see how I could set it up? The OS would need to be wiped to create the new volumes,,,, but that bring obvious issues.

I'm testing out a backup program called 'Bvckup 2'
I'm just backing up the primary drive each night.
