Can the Intel 4790K actually do 3-way SLI? (A question on PCIe Lanes)

A lot of those boards have PLX chips that provide lanes for the cards to talk to each other. The CPU is still limited to the lanes it has available after all the other devices are turned on.

PLX chips are also what you find in Dual GPU setups.

There are also several boards out there that support 8x/4x/4x configurations. Not exactly ideal.

Do the Asus Maximus Hero VII Hero and MSI Gaming 7 LGA 1150 Z97 motherboards have these chipsets? (This is because I'm upgrading and I want to use a wireless card in addition to having dual GPU's)

Neither of those boards have a PLX chip, they dont support 3/4 way SLI.

Adding a wireless card can be done without a problem though, just plug it into a x1 or x4 slot. Those use lanes from the Z97 chipset instead of the CPU, so they won't eat bandwidth from the slots you have your GPU's in.
