In a nutshell, I run a Asus Z87 ROG MicroATX with an Intel i5, 4670K. I was running two MSI 660GTXs in SLI. When I orginally built this PC, I configured it with two 650GTX Ti Boost, I stepped up the two 650GTX Ti Boost to two 760GTXs, not knowing the 760GTXs took one 6 pin and on 8 pin, I decided not to use them, and purchased two used 660GTXs, pending getting a beefier PSU, as my PSU only has two 6+2 pins (APEVIA ATX-AQ700W-BK 700W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI CrossFire Power Supply). So I sold my two 660TXs and gained about $225ish, to get an i7, but now I am thinking about getting 970GTX, since this one will take two 6 pin connectors. So I am debating.

1. Get a 970GTX (thinking about evga 2 6pin or Gigabyte, Gigabyte take 1 6pin and 1 8pin)
or
2. Get a beefier PSU and run the two 760GTXs instead.

I am currently running a XFX 7850 HD, that I got from XFX as a replacement for a faulty 295GTX.

So the overall questions, 970GTX vs 760GTXs in SLI+ PSU

GTX770 SLI is faster then a single GTX970, but then you would need a better power supply. (You have enough wattage to do it, but I don't trust adapters, they didn't include another set of cables for a reason)

So from reading up there, you kept the 770s and just shelved them? If you have them, might as well use them. And a new power supply is never a bad thing.

Eximo, Thanks for the quick reply, I will spend the money on a new PSU, I hope your read correctly, I have two 760GTXs, not 770GTXs. So if there is a difference, please let me know, are two 760GTX, still faster then a 970GTX??

If the performance is even close, go with the faster single card. FAR less trouble (and power usage).

On the other hand, if you already have two cards laying around, it would be foolish not to use them.

Here's what I'd do ... figure out how much you could get for the 760s if you sold them. Then add to that the cost of a new PSU you would need for SLI, which is money you'd be saving if you get the 970.

If that total amount is more than the cost of a new GTX970, or roughly the same, then buy the 970. If it's significantly less (like $50-$100 less), then go with SLI.

Okay, 970GTX will cost an estimated amount of $350 for evga or $380 for gigabyte.

Going Price for 760GTX on ebay, maybe $160, X 2, $320, I would get enough for the 970GTX, but would my current PSU run it? I think the 700watt will run the 970GTX.

Now, new PSU for 760GTX in SLI, Thermaltake SP-850W for $120.

So I can spend $120 on a new PSU or $380 on a 970GTX, after selling the 760GTXs?

But the overall question is still which is better? 760GTX in sli or 970GTX?? If the 760GTXs in SLI is better, then a $120 PSU is not an issue. Thanks for your comments.

I did alot of quick research, 760GTX SLI is the way to go:

Better PSU, $120ish, plus I read something about one benefit the 970GTX has is G-Sync, for newer monitors, I got my monitor back in 2012, doubt it has G-Sync.

I have look around, but I think that an 850Watt PSU will work. Thanks for all your commments.

I pulled out the HAF 932 case yesteday that I plan to use, and my dumbass found out that I had a 1000 WATT PSU installed in that case, I guess I will not need to purchase a new PSU to run the two 760GTX in SLI. I had plan to move this the case I while back ago, but just had not pulled it out of the box until yesterday.
