Hello

Sorry for the newbie question but I am trying to decide between the 5820K with 28 PCIe lanes and the 5930K with 40 PCIe lanes. I am confused by all the PCIe specs and lanes and not sure what I need.

The cards I want to install are:
1 NVIDIA 980 GPU

1 ASUS Thunderbolt II

1 SAMSUNG M.2 SSD

Can these all be installed on an ASUS X99-Deluxe with the 5820K or do I need more lanes and need to go with the 5930K? What if I wanted to get 2 Samsung M.2 SSD is there enough lanes with the 5820K to support that?

Thank you!

Solution
GPU = 16x lanes

Thunderbolt adapter = 4 PCIe 2.0 lanes

M.2 uses 4x lanes.

Totals 24 lanes, so that leaves you with another 4 left over.

If you added another GPU, they would run at 8x each.
