new build does'nt work

hello, i just received all my part for my future build from Newegg yesterday and now I am trying to make it work. But even if I just connect the motherboard ( MSI Gaming 5) with the 24 pin power connector and the cpu power connector and the i7 4790k with fan (evo-212), graphic card and memory stick are connected nothing happen. If i connect the light from the front pannel of tower, there is a little light near the power bouton that turn on. And when i turn on the power supply with minimum thing connected, there is a little light near the third graphic card slot that turn on (beside de cmos battery) for 1 second. (there is only one graphic card and is connected in the first slot) P.S There is no way for me to try the Mobo with other component

Do you have any idea what could be the problem?

double check the connecters from the io panel that is a common mistake, see picture in this post http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1716087/plugging-panel-case-motherboard.html granted you have a different mobo, they are all very similar.

The above plus I would remove all but the CPU, motherboard and PSU and see what kind of messages you get. Use the switch on the power supply to test, not the front panel connector.

I need to connect a 8 pin connector to the motherboard + the 24 pin. Evenything is connected till the little «click» has been heard. My problem is not the light but the fact that nothing happen at all

if nothing happens at all when you press the power button to turn on the pc then you probably did not connect the leads from the io panel correctly.

yes it wont boot if you do not have them connected correctly. you would see lights on the mobo but nothing when you hit the button.

I'd recommend 'breadboarding' your computer.

Take the motherboard out, leave the CPU (with heatsink attached) and one stick of ram in. Plug your monitor into the motherboard integrated graphics. Plug in the 24pin and 8pin cpu connectors from your PSU. Then use a screwdriver to 'short' the two power pins by touching them both at the same time.

This will rule out user error for the most part.

I got the msi gaming 5 and you gotta jam(not literally but making sure they are tight) the power supply cables in for it to boot at all.

It started working!!!!!! Thank you very very much for all your help (tks the great randini) my monitor starte showing the very basic stuff but now i will connect evry thing before putting it into the case to see if all work great

One reason why it's not going.

If its the Z97 Gaming 5 mobo.

Since the CPU is a Haswell refresh, the BIOS on the mobo now doesnt support it until you update the BIOS. The mobo needs BIOS 1.2 to support that CPU

Wrong, the refresh runs absolutely fine on z97. Its z87 that has compatibility issues.
