If you plan on using this HDD as the system drive, that is the drive with your operating system installed on it, then you might want to look at the WD Black. If you have a SSD as you system drive and are using the larger HDD as a secondary, it really doesn't matter with performance as much. I am using a WD Green which is nearly silent when it is reading and writing and stops spinning when idle. I have all my games installed on it and performance wise, there is very little difference in load times vs my SSD (samsung 840 on a SATA III Intel port). In some games and apps, though, you might see a slight increase in load times with a faster HDD but nothing dramatic.

Yes my op is on a SSD this will be for storage/games I'm currently using a "shitachi" 500 gb and its 6 years old and real noisy on its last legs , I was looking at a wd green 2tb for 60 quid top of the list on Amazon but I've heard seagate barracuda are really good I'm torn between them lol

It really comes down to price then. Hard drive technology has come a long way in the last 6 years in terms of efficiency and noise. Basically, most of the top of the line HDDs are going to be very quiet especially if they are 5,400 RPM drives and even more so if it is a 2.5 inch form factor (laptop size). Even the 7,200 RPM drives are very quiet compared to a 7,200 RPM HDD from 2008. Gone are those grinding noises when reading and writing and gone are those weird bearing sounds. Anything from WD or Seagate is fine. They are pretty much 1a and 1b when it comes to HDDs. Everything else really isn't worth the money unless they are significantly cheaper or free. If it were me, I'd consider this one for $90 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178474 - it is a USB external drive but you can easily pop open the case and take out the 2.5 inch HDD and use it on a regular SATA port. The same bare hard drive is $177 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G22K6735&cm_re=laptop_hard_drive_2tb-_-22-178-594-_-Product). It will be extremely quiet and power efficient simply because all the parts are smaller than a 3.5 inch HDD. Hell, if you have USB 3.0, just run it off the USB port since regular HDDs can't even run as fast as USB 2.0 speeds let alone 3.0. This external drive is really nice because it doesn't require a power adapter since it is being powered off the USB port's 5 volt source.
